Heat wave

To this point, I think I’ve been very brave about the heat of the Dallas summer. There have been a few days I complained, mostly when I was doing outdoor stuff like a festival or waiting in line to go tubing. But all in all, it hasn’t hit me quite as hard as I expected to. It is noticeable — and relentless. The odd thing is that it never cools down at night, so if it’s 95 during the day, it’s 85 or 90 at midnight and at 8 am and any other time you might expect to get a break. It’s humid, but not horribly so. Certainly not as bad as Atlanta or Virginia.

However, the last couple of days have been officially unbearable. Thursday was pretty miserable and compounded by the fact that we toured the local manufacturing plant. No A/C + chip ovens + 100+ degrees outside + mandated long pants = WORST. EVER.

Friday was oppressive to the point that I broke into a drenching sweat walking from my car to the buildings I was visiting on a market tour. The humidity intensified and the air felt heavy and hot in a way I can’t recall experiencing before.

Yesterday forced my friends and I to repeatedly check each other’s clothes for sweat marks. And not just underarm, but EVERYWHERE. Backs, legs, you name it.

And today…I actually made errands on my way home from Plano because the A/C inside stores is stronger than the A/C in my car and I couldn’t make it the full 40 minutes back home.

Tomorrow is expected to be the hottest yet — well, not sure how much it matters between today’s 105 and tomorrow’s 107. Weird things are melting, like people’s car seats and dashboards and poolside furniture. If I end up in a puddle, will someone please take care of the pets?
